Private Parts

Love So Far Poster - 1200x675.PNG

Written by avant garde artist Robert Ashley, later to be repurposed in his opus Perfect Lives, Private Parts centres on a nameless bank robber,; breathing in the air of his motel room. He receives a few telephone calls and unpacks his bag, for a drink and some busywork, awaiting a shift for the evening. As the night grows deeper he reflects on his day, and the place where he lives, the culture that shapes it and the people around him.

Foreseeing an Americana growing under influence of arrant consumerism, Ashley crafts a portrait of the midwest that, although endlessly self-reflexive, holds a subtlety in its setting that makes a vivid and gracious canvas for sly, quiet humour and rich, layered metatextualism. A generous work to behold, as to reflect on, performed with intimacy; in low light, and quiet. Music will be provided by Ari Robinson and the text performed by Dylan Roberts, a longstanding actor in the Canadian theatre.

Land Acknowledgement

The Guelph Fringe Festival will be performed on the treaty lands and territory of the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation of the Anishinaabek Peoples. We recognize this gathering place where we create and perform theatre is home to many past, present, and future First Nations, Inuit, and Métis peoples. Our acknowledgement of the land is our declaration of our collective responsibility to this place and its peoples’ histories, rights, and presence. The Guelph Fringe team supports and adds our collective voice to the CALLS TO ACTION by the Truth and Reconciliation Committee on Indian Residential Schools (and other identified sites of trauma) with our commitment to never forget, to hold governments and colonial forces to account, and to seek accountability and healing for injustice.
