Emily's Letters

Love So Far Poster - 1200x675.PNG

"Emily’s Letters" is the debut Fringe show from Dance and Heart, a Centre Wellington-based company creating “ballet illusions”—dance theatre works that blend dance theatre with wild imagination. Rooted in community and collaboration, our cast and crew are made up of dancers and artists from all walks of life. We are proudly anti-perfectionist, valuing heart, story, and honesty over polish. If you've never seen a dance show that felt like it was made for you—this is it.

This story unfolds through the resurrected letters of a long-distance friendship. Spanning the ten pivotal years from high school to early adulthood, the letters track love, longing, awe, and the quiet ache of growing apart. At the centre is Emily—glowing, imaginative, unforgettable. Her friend admires her so deeply she may as well have.... superpowers?

Set to a soundscape of nostalgic pop, romantic score, and brought to life through gritty, honest movement, Emily’s Letters offers a raw, romantic, and deeply relatable ride.

We welcome you to stay for a post-show artist talkback where we dive into the real friendships, letters, and lives that inspired it.

Land Acknowledgement

The Guelph Fringe Festival will be performed on the treaty lands and territory of the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation of the Anishinaabek Peoples. We recognize this gathering place where we create and perform theatre is home to many past, present, and future First Nations, Inuit, and Métis peoples. Our acknowledgement of the land is our declaration of our collective responsibility to this place and its peoples’ histories, rights, and presence. The Guelph Fringe team supports and adds our collective voice to the CALLS TO ACTION by the Truth and Reconciliation Committee on Indian Residential Schools (and other identified sites of trauma) with our commitment to never forget, to hold governments and colonial forces to account, and to seek accountability and healing for injustice.
